Wayne Sweeps Ahoskie

I'll also to finish the stats by this afternoon. Ask me for an attachment if you can't get to the stats online.

It was quick and painless. Well, maybe not painless.

Wayne County Post 11 made quick work of Area I East opponent Ahoskie Post 102 Saturday afternoon at Scarborough Field, winning both ends of a seven-inning double header by the ten-run rule. Wayne (4-2, 10-2)will resume South Division play Monday night at home against Pitt County Post 160.

Taylor Bullard retired the first 13 batters before giving up a walk and a hit in the fifth as Wayne took the opener 12-0. Garrett Davis homered in his first two plate appearances to lead the way offensively. Post 11 piled up 14 hits in four innings.

Wayne continued to get it done at the plate in the second game as it rolled to 11-1 win. Walker Gourley had three hits and drove in four runs. Tyler Ham added three hits and two RBI as part of an 11-hit attack.

Bullard's performance came against one of the weakest teams in the league, but it was still totally unexpected given his numbers heading into the game. In his 5 2/3 innings this season, the right-hander had allowed 11 hits, walked seven and thrown 149 pitches. but this game his control was exceptional, as he needed only 55 pitches in his five innings. Only a leadoff fly ball and the two-out hit by Josh Morris left the infield.

In the Wayne first, Davis followed a triple by Jackson Massey by sending a 3-2 fastball over the right field fence. Wayne added two more runs on RBI hits by Zack Wright and alex Casey.

Davis hit a solo home run in the second, and that was enough for Ahoskie. He drew intentional walks his next two trips to the plate.

Wayne broke it open with seven runs in the third. John Wooten and Zack Wright had consecutive two-run hits.

There was no suspense in the second game concerning a no-hitter as Ahoskie had a respectable six hits. but the story was the same as the first game: too much Post 11 offense.

Wayne's big inning was the six-run second. Jay Rose got things going with a leadoff double to left and scored on Ham's single up the middle. The other key hit in the inning weas Gourley's two-run single.

Gourley drove in two runs in the third with a double over the head of the left fielder. The final two runs in the third came off hits by Nolan Lancaster and Ham.
